Kilometers per Hour to Meters per Second Calculator

A kilometer per hour is the simply a kilometer divided by an hour: $$ \begin{equation}\begin{aligned} 1km/h=\frac{1km}{1h}\\ \end{aligned}\end{equation} $$

We can express $1km$ in meters and $1h$ in seconds: $$ \begin{equation}\begin{aligned} 1km&=1000m\\ 1h&=3600s\\ \end{aligned}\end{equation} $$

Thus we can substitute these values into the original ratio: $$ \begin{equation}\begin{aligned} 1km/h&=\frac{1km}{1h}=\frac{1000m}{3600s}\\ \therefore 1km/h&=0.2\overline{7} m/s\\ \end{aligned}\end{equation} $$

Hence, in order to convert a value from km/h to m/s, we simply multiply it by this conversion factor of 0.277777… (a recurring decimal).
