Education is Important
We can have a world where people make better, informed choices instead of taking every political leader, multinational corporation and news outlet at face value.
If students are not presented with quality information in an accessible manner then the main struggle in getting an education becomes the ease of access to learning material.
Even when students are given information in a readily accessible form, they are often discouraged by society from using the information - “Why learn X when you won’t need it?”. We learn many things in our daily lives that we possibly won’t use very often or ever again but we do not view this form of learning as we do school.
Ease of access to resources and premature optimization fueled by skepticism towards learning new concepts are big issues in the education space.
What’s with the name?
We wanted a name that was memorable and sounded familiar to Guyanese. “Chicken Fry Rice” (the “fried” in creole is vocalized as “fry”) is what we order at Chinese restaurants. A “byte” is a unit of information storage consisting of 8 bits (1’s and 0’s). The resulting name represents a local endeavour to embody the hacker ethic.
